User Behavior Survey 2011 Results

In January 2011, we ran a large survey among Czech internet users focusing on their behavior. The goal was to answer common questions we have when building websites and help making informed design decisions. We gathered more than 3 000 responses.

Some of the questions the survey answered:

What font size is easy to read?

How many passwords do users usually have and do they remember them?

How much do user actually dislike CAPTCHA and new browser windows?

I will present a brief overview of the survey results.

The future of mobile apps - will html5 kill native apps?

A few years ago, nobody believed in native and closed apps. The future was thought to be open and within web-apps. Then apple came along and changed an entire industry's mindset. Everyone wants to have their own app store nowadays.

With HTML5 the idea of cross-platform mobile websites got a new boost. But what is the real potential of HTML5? Can it compete at all with native apps?

As I am not an expert in this field I would like to use the session to open up the discussion. This sessions is meant to share interesting concepts, exchange insights, showcase projects etc.

Some inspiration as a starting point:

A concept that got a lot of coverage these days - a html5-based magazine for tablets: http://www.asidemag.com/

A good (and detailed) read about html5 http://diveintohtml5.org/

An interactive presentation highlighting some of html5's potential http://slides.html5rocks.com/#landing-slide

I WOULD BE HAPPY TO DISCUSS THIS TOPIC WITH YOU ON SUNDAY.

Insights into Design Thinking

Hi Jens,

I think it will especially be interesting to discuss "Design Thinking" as a term claimed by the HPI school of design thinking with people who have a design background and the broader design community.

I think the methods taught at HPI are very valuable and it is great to have "traditional" design methods streamlined in a somewhat defined process. On the other hand, the term "design thinking" also refers to the entire design community and broadly describes a mindset in general. I think this contradicts a little. Who "owns" the term? What is "design thinking"?

Would be interesting to see different perspectives on the topic. The HPI people and "design thinkers" who have a design background but also claim the term.

If you do the session on Sunday, I'd be happy to join.
