Xander and Bas would like to organize a session around the theme "Hidden IA".
The concept of tagging, which was popularized by services like del.icio.us and Flickr, is now commonly understood. The idea of humans tagging content to categorize it and later to find it is a simple, yet important bit of the web infrastructure. It's part of a bigger movement where the user has an active role in the production of content.
We would like to look at content-rich environments that both have content consumption on one side, and content creation and manipulation on the other. What is the role of IA here?
We kick off with our own examples: the "master release" system that was introduced by Discogs.com, a user-driven musical encyclopedia and marketplace, and the social tagging feature on Flickr.
After that, we'd like to hear yours and look into a specific website together with all session participants. Suggestions are welcome.
